This is the artwork I completed for night 3 of the Noted Festival. This involved a bar-hop (called a Lit Hop in this case) going from King O’Malley’s Pub to The Phoenix to Smith’s Alternative Bookstore to Gorman House Art Centre.

The first images are my interpretations of poetry stanzas I heard at a rotating poetry session held at Smith’s Alternative Bookstore.

The next set of art is from a professional development session called Ghosts in the Seams with award-winning horror writer, Kaaron Warren, held at the Green Shed Underground. This involved trying on secondhand clothes to discover character.

This is the art for the Conflux 13 convention that I was commissioned to do on the theme of Grimm Tales (read, dark fairy tales and fairy tale reimaginings). For this art commission, I tried a technique I haven’t used before: this one was all drawn on black cardboard (with lots of ruler measurements to keep the symmetry) and the parts not meant to be black were cut out and the rest just scanned onto the computer. I think the incising made the blacks nice and sharp and gave the work a neat dark feel that I felt was appropriate for this particular project. I used Photoshop to fill in the rest of the colours and viola. The cool thing about this was that it was only about 14 hours of work from concept to completion and so I was able to knock it off while listening to audiobooks – all in all, a productive and happy art day.
I’m pretty proud that my artwork gets to play a part in a spec fic convention whose guests of honour are Ellen Datlow (squee!) and Angela Slatter (also squee!). Can’t wait to catch up with everyone at the con.

I tend to change my headers based on art or stories I have coming out. This one is a header I designed based on a short story I wrote for the CSFG anthology, The Never Never Land. This is already out in book form, but will be out as an ebook later this year.
The story is called To Look Upon a Dream Tiger and it is a tale of a photographer who journeys into remote Tasmanian wilderness in the hunt for a thylacine and finds something that may or may not be the creature he is after.
