Heart Emoji at the End of the World

Hey, all.

I recently won first place in the latest short story contest run by On The Premises Magazine with my story “Heart Emoji at the End of the World.”

It’s a bittersweet little tale about a person who doesn’t make it back to the bunker in time.

You can read it for free here.

Interzone 277

Very excited to announce that my short story The Sea-Maker of Darmid Bay has sold to Interzone Magazine in the UK. It will appear in Issue 277. Thanks to my editor, Andy Cox, and TTA Press.

If you like survival stories about best friends and creation gods set in a world of tropical islands and sweeping bays and big skies, then this is the tale for you.

#WhiteWitch – The Water Wars Have Begun

I’m thrilled to announce that my novelette, #WitchWitch (Hashtag WhiteWitch) is now out in volume 14 of Dimension 6 Magazine at the Coeur de Lion website. It is free to download here so check it out.

Over-the-top drone warfare set on an Alaskan glacier: the water wars have begun.

Here is the table of contents thanks to awesome editor, Keith Stevenson. :

‘#WhiteWitch’ by Shauna O’Meara
Facing danger at the top of the world? You need #WhiteWitch.

‘All in Green’ by Adele Gardner
Rappo and Finn were joined in life like no-one else. But what if one should face death?

‘In The Nexsphere’ by Doug Bost
It’s the next big thing in tech. Maybe you should read the user manual first.

‘The Giant’s Servant’ by Trent Jamieson
Did you know giants come in all shapes and sizes?

So this happened …

Memories of Fish from Interzone 270, published by TTA Press, has made the shortlist for the short story section of the Norma K Hemming Awards. I’ll find out the result in June at the Continuum Convention in Melbourne 🙂

The Norma K Hemming Award is “given to mark excellence in the exploration of themes of race, gender, sexuality, class or disability in a speculative fiction work (e.g. science fiction, fantasy, horror) by Australian citizens and/or residents, and first published during the eligibility period.”

Thank you to the judges and convenors. I’m really proud to be on this list with such awesome writers.

I’m also really pleased with how often this little story keeps popping up. Not too shabby for a tale I wrote during two flights and a Melbourne Airport stop-over.

Island Green Makes the List

In great news, my short story Island Green from Ticonderoga Publishing’s Ecopunk! anthology has made the Best Novella shortlist of both the Aurealis and Ditmar Awards.

Thank you to the judges and convenors and those who voted for me.

Thanks to Ticonderoga and editors Liz Grzyb and Cat Sparks for the chance to be part of this amazing project. Ecopunk! is excellent reading and tells science fiction stories of a positive future.
