Shauna O’Meara is a Ditmar and Aurealis Award nominated Australian artist, writer and vet with a passion for all things science fiction. Her short stories have appeared in Cosmos Magazine, Writers of the Future, The Worcester Journal, Midnight Echo, Sci Phi Journal and several Australian anthologies. Her art has been on the cover of Hugo-nominated Andromeda Spaceways, Nicole Murphy’s In Fabula-divino, Prana’s Gold Coast Anthology Undertow, CSFG Publishing’s Winds of Change, Next and The Never Never Land and she has contributed interior artwork to these,  Lackingtons Magazine and Cthulhu: Deep Down Under.  She has a short comic due out in an upcoming edition of Oi Oi Oi!

Shauna was a winner of the prestigious Writers of the Future Contest in 2014 and was flown to Los Angeles where she attended a week of masterclasses held by such science fiction and fantasy luminaries as Tim Powers, Dave Wolverton/David Farland, Orson Scott Card, Kevin J Anderson, Rebecca Moesta, Robert J Sawyer, Mike Resnick, Eric Flint, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, Nancy Kress and Doug Beason. In 2016, Shauna attended two of David Farland’s week-long masterclasses: Story Outlining and Writing Enchanting Prose.

Shauna was a finalist in the 2016 Arizona State University Climate Fiction contest, judged by Kim Stanley Robinson and climate science experts from ASU.

She will be illustrator in residence at the 2017 Canberra Noted Writers’ Festival.

Shauna is currently working on her first novel.

Although much of Shauna’s spare time is spent creating art and writing stories, she does occasionally take time out to enjoy the finer things in life. Shauna loves Farscape, Sons of Anarchy, Orphan Black, The 100, Justified, True Detective, Fullmetal Alchemist, Silver Spoon, Saga (Image Comics), Blacksad,  YA, anime, graphic novels, animated films and anything by Pixar, Dreamworks Animation SKG, Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples, Guillermo Del Toro, Gene Luen Yang, Michael Crichton, Paolo Bacigalupi, Christopher Nolan, Mike Mignola (Hellboy), Jamie Hewlett (Tankgirl and Gorillaz), Juanjo Guarnido (Blacksad), Tite Kubo (Bleach) and Quentin Tarantino.

Shauna enjoys archery, kayaking, sailing, forest walking, Max Brenner Italian Thick Chocolate, Tasmania, coffee, spiced chai, pavlova and macaroons by Adriano Zumbo. She loves waterfalls and spiders and weird rainforest fungi.
